How were Quebec and New France the major trading posts in France?

While New France was a major region under French control in North America, and Quebec was its capital city, it was not the major trading post. Instead, the main trading hub for French colonies was in the Caribbean. Saint-Domingue, present-day Haiti, was a major trading hub and produced goods like sugar, rum, and coffee to ship to France. Canada was involved in trade of furs.
