Holidays in the Canadian Mountains

The Canadian people have made it a business, and a very successful one at that, to provide the mountainous regions of the sprawling country to tourists year round. Whether you are looking for great winter activities, fun things to do in the summer or ideas for the in-between season of fall and spring, the Canadian mountains have what you are looking for.
  1. Winter Wonderland

    • Canada is known for its frigid weather and winter conditions. Yes it can be extremely cold, but it can also warm up during the winter months allowing for great skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoeing and pretty much everything else you can do in the snow. The Rocky Mountain regions of Alberta and British Columbia offer the best skiing in the country. Banff, Jasper and Lake Louise are just a few examples of the great hills in the region. You can also venture further west to Whistler, B.C., the home of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

    Summer Sensations

    • When the snow melts it doesn't mean it's time to pack your luggage for a trip elsewhere. Summer in the Canadian mountains offers hiking and biking trails, ATV and dirt bike trails, camping, fishing, swimming and more. The Canadian mountains also offer great golf courses. Take advantage of the mild temperatures in the Alberta and Western British Columbia region, or, if you are looking for fun in the hotter sun, head west to the Okanagan Valley where you will find lakes at nearly every turn.

    Super Spring

    • Spring is a great time to partake in a Canadian mountain rafting trip. With all of the run-off from the melting snow, the rapids will be just that; rapid, wet and a real challenge for even the most experienced white-water rafters. Try to plan this trip for later spring as winter can last a while in these regions and you'll want to be sure to get the best conditions possible. Hunting is also good in spring if that is something you are looking to do. Be sure with hunting and fishing that you research and obtain the appropriate licenses.

    Fantastic Fall

    • Fall is a beautiful time of year to vacation in the Canadian mountains and simply enjoy the scenery. With an abundance of green space both in and out of the major cities and towns, the changing colors of fall are a beautiful sight. Not too cool yet, fall also provides comfortable temperatures for outdoor activities. It is still a great time to go hiking, biking or exploring if you were unable to make it in the summer.
