Things to Do in the Canadian Rockies

The peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains make up the Canadian Rockies, which stretch between the provinces of Alberta and British Columbia. The Canadian Rockies have several alpine towns, including Banff, Jasper, Fernie, Canmore, Kananaskis, Revelstoke and Cranbrook. Whether you come in the summer or winter, the Canadian Rockies have numerous activities to keep you entertained.
  1. Explore

    • The Canadian Rockies have spectacular views and you can see the sights several ways. Gondola rides above the terrain are available in Banff, Fernie, Golden, Jasper, Kimberley and Lake Louis. These take you up to the very mountaintops. "Zipline" tours let you slide down the slopes in a harness hooked to an overhead cable in Banff, Lake Louis and Golden. If you are an animal lover, take a dog-sled or horseback tour. Otherwise, hike to see the scenery or join a wildlife tour to see the local fauna. Try walking with snowshoes or rent a bike. Go in a helicopter, or on a snowmobile or ATV tour for faster, more exciting experiences.

    Sports

    • Enjoy sports such as skiing and snowboarding in the winter in Kanananskis, Banff, Lake Louis, Jasper, Fernie and Golden. Ice-climbing also is available in Banff and Canmore. In the summer, try white-water rafting or kayaking in Kananaskis, Grande Cache, Revelstoke and Field. For families with kids, try gentle rafting or "float" trips using inflatable inner tubes instead. Enjoy rock climbing in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise. The Canadian Rockies also have several golf courses.

    Relaxation

    • The Canadian Rockies have a few outdoor geothermal springs in Banff, Jasper, Radium Hot Springs and Fairmont Hot Springs. Fish for trout in the rivers while admiring the scenery during summers. In the winter, you can relax while ice fishing in heated huts.
