Things to Do at the Miami Airport

Since September 11, 2001, airport security measures in the United States have been tightened, and passengers have to arrive hours before their departure time to make it through airport security checkpoints. Passengers often find themselves with time on their hands after going through security. If you are traveling through the Miami International Airport, you will find plenty of activities and restaurants to keep you entertained.
  1. Restaurants

    • It's no secret that airplane food isn't exactly fine dining; it really isn't even decent dining. If you want something to eat before takeoff, the Miami International Airport has a vast selection of restaurants. For casual meals, fast food such as Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and Subway are all available. Pizza Hut, Nathan's Famous Hot Dogs and Quizno's also serve meals throughout the day. Starbucks stores are located all over the airport if you're looking for a caffeine fix. Many passengers like to enjoy a cocktail or watch a game in a bar, so Chili's, the Lobby Bar and the Bud Brewhouse come in handy. Not all restaurants are available in all terminals. The Miami International Airport provides a list of restaurants and locations on its website.

    Shopping

    • Perhaps you have been gone for a few days on a business trip or a getaway without your kids. Your flight is about to board, and you just remembered that you promised to bring your children something from Miami. Luckily, the Miami International Airport has a variety of stores and shops for you to patronize while you wait to board your plane. Hugo Boss, Bijoux Turner and Brookstone are available for your clothing desires. You can pick up a coffee mug, shot glass or tee shirt featuring Miami scenes at Hudson News, along with a newspaper and in-flight reading material. L'Occitane is available if you're looking for beauty items, and various shops selling designer sunglasses and jewelry are located throughout the airport. Check the airport's website to see which shops are in your terminal.

    Amenities

    • Miami International Airport offers additional services to enhance your airport visit. Shoeshine stations are available in every terminal, as well as a barber shop and a hair salon for those long layovers. You can indulge in a spa service or two at the Jetsetters Spa, which features a full-service menu including massages, manicures and pedicures. For overnight guests, the Miami International Airport Hotel is on site and has several bars and restaurants, including a rooftop fine dining restaurant.
