Smoky Mountains Train Vacations

The Great Smoky Mountains National Park offers a full range of outdoor activities, including fishing, bicycling, picnicking, camping and hiking through more than 800 miles of park trails. Visitors to the Smokies can also take a 53-mile train ride aboard the Great Smoky Mountains Railroad. All trains depart from Bryson City, North Carolina, before traveling across 25 bridges and two tunnels along the way. Planned activities in Asheville include a city tour, a visit to the Basilica of St. Lawrence and a Biltmore Estate tour. On the fifth day of the journey, guests board the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad for a scenic mountain ride. Available activities near the Charleston Inn include hiking in the Great Smoky Mountains, on the Appalachian Trail and in Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest.

    American Heritage Railways Presidential Suite

    • The Great Smoky Mountain Railroad offers a vacation package that includes accommodations in the American Heritage Railways Presidential Suite in Bryson City, North Carolina and a round-trip train journey through the Smoky Mountains. The loft-style accommodations feature a full kitchen, two bedrooms with queen-size beds, a dining area, Wi-Fi Internet service, laundry facilities and a plasma television with satellite service. The suite overlooks the Bryson City Depot, where guests depart for an excursion through Nantahala Gorge. The vacation package include accommodations for two people and coach seating aboard the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad.
