Disney Train Vacations

Train travel is a relaxing way to get from one region of the United States to another while on vacation. When visiting Disney World or Disney Land, traveling via train allows you more time to spend with your family enjoying the scenery, as well as planning the sites and rides you hope to visit once you arrive at the park.
  1. Northeast to Disney World

    • Travel from most cities in the northeast to Disney World averages 18 to 24 hours. Amtrak offers coach fares, or you can reserve a sleeper compartment. If you are traveling with children a sleeper compartment may be worth the additional cost, as it offers children additional room to sleep and stretch out. A continental breakfast and dinner is generally included with the sleeper fare. If traveling coach, bring along a pillow and a blanket. If you wish to bring your car via auto train, travel from Lorton, Virgina, to Sanford, Florida. Travel by auto train can be expensive but includes accommodations, a buffet dinner and a continental breakfast. There are three Amtrak destinations near Disney World: Orlando, Kissimmee and Sanford.

    San Diego to Disneyland

    • Amtrak offers a train that travels between San Diego and Anaheim. The trip takes about two hours one way. Take a cab from the Anaheim station to Disneyland. The cab ride is 10 minutes and drops you directly in front of Disneyland. If you are spending more than one day at the park, there are numerous hotels and resorts surrounding Disneyland that offer shuttles to and from the park.

    Seattle to Disneyland

    • Amtrak's Starlight travels from Seattle, Washington, to Los Angeles, California, daily and is a 35-hour trip one-way. The Starlight travels through Portland, Oregon, the San Francisco Bay Area and Santa Barbara. Scenery along the route includes stretches of the Pacific Ocean shoreline, dense forests and mountains. Roomette and sleeper passengers have access to the Pacific Parlour Car, a private lounge featuring a library and games, afternoon wine tastings and a movie theater. An extra plus if you are traveling with kids is the kiddie car, which offers games just for them. From Los Angeles, Disneyland is about 32 miles south.
