Oklahoma Train Vacations

Trains were once the major - if not the only practical - means of transportation in Oklahoma. Trains are making a resurgence today, and there are many opportunities to use trains with your vacation plans. You can do it yourself via Amtrak, with the Heartland Flyer going from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth and beyond. There are several other smaller trains in various towns around the state that have regular trips, and there is the occasional special train that can be made part of a vacation.
  1. Amtrak

    • Amtrak offers train service through Oklahoma. The Heartland Flyer goes from Oklahoma City to Fort Worth Texas, which is a four hour, 14 minute ride. There are stops in Oklahoma cities Norman, Purcell, Paul's Valley and Armore, before stopping in Gainesville, Texas and on to Forth Worth. One could ride the train there in the morning, and come back that same night after spending a few hours in Fort Worth. Amtrak offers tour deals for Forth Worth, and the train station is close to major shopping and activity centers. Connections are available there to other trains that go nationwide.
