The Rocky Mountaineer runs four routes throughout British Columbia and Alberta in the Canadian Rockies: First Passage to the West, Journey through the Clouds, Rainforest to Gold Rush and Whistler Sea to Sky Climb. From observation cars travelers are likely to see wild animals such as moose, elk, mountain goats or bald eagles. Travel is by daylight. The Rocky Mountaineer does not allow smoking in the cars, although some hotels along the way have limited numbers of smoking rooms. Pets are not allowed on these routes. Service on the Rocky Mountaineer runs the gamut from classic to luxury.

The Royal Canadian Pacific line, owned by Canadian Pacific Railway Company, is composed of 10 vintage cars that have been luxuriously refurbished. They are suitable for group events such as business conferences and wedding parties up to 32 travelers, as well as for smaller parties and individuals. Gourmet meals and fine wines are available. Overnight travel is not available. Golfing and fly fishing packages are available. Children under 18 are not allowed on these tours. Exterior platforms found on the business cars are the only areas where smoking is allowed.

VIA Rail is the national train of Canada. It provides regular rail service between cities as well as transportation across the country, but it also offers vacation packages. There are special deals for those who love golfing, fishing or outdoor adventures. VIA Rail provides combination rail/cruise, rail/air, or rail/self drive vacations, and access to cultural, sporting, and festival events, with accommodations included. Children up to 24 months travel free on VIA Rail provided they do not need a separate seat. Pets may travel but are limited to riding in travel crates in the baggage car.
