With originating points in Louisiana and California, Amtrak's Sunset Limited line traverses the southern portion of Texas. Traveling from the east, the Sunset Limited enters Texas at the Louisiana border, with seven stops in Texas. Beaumont is the first stop; Texas' largest city, Houston, is the second, followed by San Antonio, Del Rio, Sanderson, Alpine and, finally El Paso, before the train moves on to New Mexico. The Sunset Limited offers three trains weekly in each direction. Services on the Sunset Limited include sleeping cars, a diner car and Amtrak's Sightseer Lounge Car.
Offering daily routes between Chicago and San Antonio, Texas, Amtrak's Texas Eagle serves more Texas cities than any other Amtrak line. Traveling into Texas from Chicago, the first stop on the Texas Eagle line is Marshall, with additional stops in Longview, Mineola, Dallas, Fort Worth, Cleburne, McGregor, Temple, Taylor, Austin, San Marcos, San Antonio, Del Rio, Sanderson, Alpine and El Paso. Services on the Texas Eagle line include sleeping cars, a dining car and Amtrak's Sightseer Lounge Car.
Fort Worth is the beginning and end of the line for the Heartland Flyer, which also stops in Gainesville, Texas. The Heartland Flyer travels daily between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, where connections can be made to Dallas, Chicago and San Antonio on other Amtrak lines. A full dining car is not available on the Heartland Flyer, however cafe service is available during the four-hour trip between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth.
