Chicago Amtrak Train Stations

Amtrak links 46 U.S. states by train. Train stations are available in many locations throughout the United States. Some of its more than 300 trains operate at speeds as high as 150mph. There are five stations within 20 miles of Chicago, Illinois.
  1. Union Station

    • The Amtrak station in Chicago is Union Station located on South Canal Street. Union Station has a waiting room for travelers to use and is open from 5:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. all week. Ticketing is available between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Self-service kiosk ticketing is available beginning at 5:30 a.m., according to Amtrak information as of October 2010.

      Union Station features a lounge which operates during station hours. The Metropolitan Lounge is available to members holding sleeping car tickets and to Rewards select Plus members. Benefits of the lounge include complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, ticketing assistance, and internet service.

    Tickets

    • Travelers at Union Station can purchase tickets at the ticket counter or using a Quik-Trak kiosk. While ticketing is available at the station, Amtrak recommends purchasing tickets in advance. Union Station has an ATM for your convenience.

    Baggage

    • Baggage services are available from the Red Cap Service agents. Baggage services are free and agents will provide you with a claim check for all baggage handled. Red Cap Services are available beginning at 8 a.m. and ending at 9:30 p.m.

    Nearby

    • Other Amtrak stations in the Chicago area include stations in Summit, La Grange, Hammond, and Glenview. The Summit is a platform shelter near Midway Airport and La Grange stations, also with shelter, is 13 miles from Union Station.

      Hammond-Whiting, Indiana, and Glenview are both stations with buildings and have enclosed waiting areas. None of these stations offer Quik-Trak ticketing or help with baggage. Ticket sales are only available at the Glenview station.
