Barcelona, Spain Train Stations

Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain after Madrid, with a population of 5 million people in the greater Barcelona metropolitan area. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is the fourth most visited city in Europe and eleventh most visited city in the world. For individuals traveling to and from Barcelona by train, there are several stations to accommodate your transportation needs.
  1. Passeig de Gracia

    • Passeig de Gracia opened in 1924. It is located in central Barcelona in the district of Eixample, along one of the busiest shopping streets in the city (the street is also referred to as Passeig de Gracia). It is an underground train station and one of the busiest on Barcelona's Metro train system. The Metro is a form of public transportation in Barcelona; the Metro trains travel all over the city and are a popular way to get around and explore Barcelona.

    Estacio de Sants

    • Estacio de Sants is one of the primary train stations in Barcelona with departures and arrivals to and from other cities in Spain and throughout Europe. It is located in the northwest part of the city, about a ten minute walk from Placa de Espanya, a popular city square with two Venetian towers and large fountain with a water show every 30 minutes in the evenings. It is named after the Sants neighborhood in the Sants-Montjuic district. A four star hotel, Hotel Barcelo Sants, is located in the building above the train station.

    • Provenca is another Barcelona Metro station located in central Barcelona in the Eixample district. Many Metro lines run in and out of this underground station that was built in 1929. Stairs, elevators and escalators are available for people to enter or leave the station. Ticket vending machines are in the lobby, as is a customer support desk. Another Metro station, Diagonal, is located nearby. Together, the two stations serve many of the Metro lines and suburban trains.

    Aeroport Railway Station

    • Aeroport Railway Station is located in Terminal B of the Barcelona International Airport, El Prat Aeroport, about 6 miles southwest from the city center. If you arrive in Barcelona by plane, you can access this station to connect to commuter trains that will take you into the city. It is currently the only train station that serves the airport, but another station is being built and is scheduled to open at the airport in 2012.
