Plan your trip before you leave home. It's easier to find a Metro station when you know which station you are looking for.
Visit the Metro's website for complete directions. The Metro's website includes maps of each station with directions to the entrance. There is also a feature where travelers can find the closest Metro station to certain landmarks. You can also search for Metro stations by address.
Sync up your iPod. You can download a copy of the Metro map to your iPod. You will need to make sure you iPod is up-to-date and has iTunes.
Look at a Google Map. Google and other online mapping programs do a good job at placing icons and information about Metro stations on maps.
Look for the letter "M." There are tall columns that are brown in color with a large, white "M" at the top indicating that a Metro station is nearby. Usually these columns are located next to the elevator. There will be an escalator just a short walk away.
Ask for directions. Most people you will meet in the area are willing to stop and help other travelers find their way. This could be your saving grace. Washingtonians will make sure you get to the closest station and can give you pointers about getting to your next destination faster.
