Sarah Lawrence College is a small liberal arts college in Bronxville, NY. It boosts a highly creative and heavily female population, and is a great alternative to the larger New York-based colleges, such as NYU. If you wish to visit and tour the Sarah Lawrence College campus, it is easily accessible by Metro North.
Go online (see Resources) and scroll over "schedules" on the upper left hand corner of the page. When the scroll down menu appears, click on "Metro-North Railroad."
Two options will appear on the next page: "Lines WEST of Hudson," or "Lines EAST of Hudson." Sarah Lawrence College is located off of the Harlem Line, so click on "Lines EAST of the Hudson," on the right.
You will see scrolldown menu's with options for departure and arrival. On the "From Station" side, select "Grand Central Station." On the "To Station" side, select Bronxville Station. Now, select your departure date and the preferred time of the day you wish to go.
Click "See Schedule." A schedule for all of your train options will appear. Look it over and choose the train that fits your timetable best.
Take the 4, 5, or 6 green trains, the 7 purple train, or the S-shuttle from Times Square trains to Grand Central Station. Once you exit the train, follow signs to Grand Central Station Terminal.
Once you are in the main terminal of GCS, you can purchase a ticket at the Harlem line windows from ticket sellers with cash or a credit card. You can choose one way or round trip by asking for a one way to Bronxville/Round trip to Bronxville. You can also purchase your tickets from an automated ticked machine sprinkled around the station.
Look at the large departure board above the ticker counter or at one of several departure screens around the station to locate the departure gate for your Metro North train. You are looking for the train that departs exactly at the time you previously selected and listed as No. White Plains, the last stop on the Bronxville Metro train line.
Continue to the departure gate, either on the main floor or on the floor below and enter the Metro North Train at the correct track.
Ride the train to Bronxville, about 27 to 37 min from Grand Central Station, depending on the trains express status. Exit the train at Bronxville Station.
You can either take a taxi from the stand for $10 to Sarah Lawrence College from the train station, or if it is a nice day, simply walk the 20 minutes to the campus. To walk there, take a left into the underpass and then another left under the tracks. Continue to Palmer Ave, which leads you up a slight hill. In about 10 blocks, take a left onto Kimball Avenue. Follow Kimball Avenue to the main gate of Sarah Lawrence College, about half a mile up Kimball Avenue, which is a very steep hill.
