Take advantage of the Harlem 125th Street Station. People traveling in and out of Manhattan seem to assume that they need to come and go out of Grand Central Station. Remember that there is a second Manhattan stop, also located on the 4, 5, 6 Line at 125th Street, which may be more convenient for anyone coming or leaving Uptown.
Be pragmatic about your ticket purchases. It is always cheaper to pre-purchase a ticket than to buy one on board the train. Also, if you will be traveling consistently on the route, you may benefit from getting a multiple-ride ticket pass. Information about discounts and other ticket offers, such as how to purchase discount tickets online, is available on the Metro-North website.
