Instructions

    • 1

Plan a trip to Quebec City in February. Quebec City lies in the heart of the French-Canadian province of Quebec, in eastern Canada. Accommodations there range from the landmark Chateau Frontenac, which overlooks the center of the city, to small bed and breakfasts to large commercial hotels. It is wise to make your plans well in advance as rooms during the Winter Festival fill up quickly.

    • 2

Purchase a pass to the Festival. A pass to the Winter Festival is required for access to most events. These passes are available at Festival venues and at over 450 stores in the Quebec City area during December, January and February.

    • 3

Attend the dogsled races. One of the highlights of the Winter Festival is the dogsled races. This event starts at the Chateau Frontenac and continues for 6 km through the streets of Old Quebec. An average of 30 teams compete each year.

    • 4

Marvel at the snow sculpture competition. This international competition draws ice and snow sculptures from all over the globe. The Plains of Abraham, just outside the city, are transformed into a gallery of fanciful snow sculptures.

    • 5

Watch the Night Parades. Twice during the festival, the Winter Festival mascot "Bonhomme" leads an array of floats, musicians, clowns and other performers on an illuminated march through Old Quebec.
