Indonesian Islands with Significant Christian Populations

While Indonesia is ~87% Muslim, several islands/provinces have Christian majorities or large minorities:

1. North Sulawesi: ~68% Protestant (Minahasa people); highest Christian % in Indonesia.
2. Papua & West Papua: ~70%+ Christian (mostly Protestant); indigenous Papuan majority.
3. Maluku (Moluccas): ~50/50 Muslim-Christian; Ambon, Seram, Ternate—Protestant & Catholic communities.
4. North Sumatra (Nias Island): ~90% Protestant (Nias people).
5. East Nusa Tenggara (Flores, Sumba, Timor, Alor): ~90% Catholic (Flores), mixed Protestant/Catholic (Sumba, Timor).
6. West Kalimantan: Significant Catholic/Protestant Dayak communities.
7. Central Sulawesi: Poso region—Christian minorities.

Christianity spread via Dutch missionaries (Protestant) and Portuguese/Spanish (Catholic) from 16th century onward, often in areas less reached by Islam.
