Puerto Rican music is a creole synthesis of Taíno, Spanish, and African roots — forged in sugar fields, mountain villages, and urban barrios. Six pillars define the soundscape.

1. 🎵 Plena — "The Sung Newspaper"

• Origin: Late 19th c., Ponce/Barrio San Antón. African-derived, working-class.
