1. Check with the airline before booking your flights. Some airlines have restrictions on the size and breed of dogs that they allow on their flights.
2. Your dog must have a pet carrier that can be safely stowed under the seat in front of you. All service animals are required to be leashed and muzzled in Puerto Rico.
3. Your dog must be up to date on vaccinations. Please ensure your documentation states your dog is vaccinated for rabies, distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus.
4. Get a health certificate from your vet. This certificate should state that your dog is healthy and fit to fly.
5. Bring along a supply of food and water for your dog, as well as any medication that your dog takes. You should also pack a leash and a collar, and possibly a first aid kit for animals.
6. Be prepared for additional fees. Some airlines charge a fee to transport dogs, and some hotels and vacation rentals may also charge a pet fee.
7. When you arrive in Puerto Rico, you will need to take your dog to the USDA office before clearing customs. The office is located at the Luis Munoz Marin International Airport.
8. Once you have cleared customs, you will be able to enjoy your vacation with your dog!
