Delta Air Lines Regulations for Cremated Remains

Delta Air Lines offers several options for shipping cremated remains through its Delta Cares program. Cremated remains that will not be accompanied by a passenger must be shipped by a funeral home that is recognized as a shipper by the airline. Accompanied remains can be transported as checked baggage or as a carry-on item.

  1. Special Arrangements

    • Passengers traveling with cremated remains must have a death or cremation certificate for the remains. Remains that are carried onto the plane must pass through security checkpoints, so the container must be made of a material that allows the contents to be seen on X-ray. Delta allows one floral arrangement, no larger than 48 inches long, 32 inches wide and 8 inches high, to accompany cremated remains. The airlines follows special procedures when handling the remains of fallen military personnel, allowing a U.S. Military Escort to accompany the remains at all times.
