Luggage Regulations for Delta Airlines

Delta luggage regulations vary based on whether the bag is checked-in or carried on, in addition to the final destination of the flight. Passengers are also limited to the number of bags they can bring on a trip.
  1. Size

    • Checked luggage is limited to two bags (except for those traveling to or from Key West, Florida who are limited to one bag) that cannot weight more than 50 pounds each, according to Delta regulations as of 2010. It must also be less than 62 inches total in height, length and width. Charges for checked baggage are $23 to $25 for the first bag and $32 to $35 for the second bag, if traveling in the U.S., U.S. Virgin Islands, Canada or Puerto Rico.

    Benefits

    • Passengers are allowed to carry on one personal item--such as a diaper bag, laptop computer, purse, camera bag or briefcase--and one small bag that is less than 45 inches total in height, length and width and that can fit in a 22 inch by 14 inch by 9 inch space.

    Considerations

    • Example of some items that do not count against carry-on limit are food and drinks purchased at the airport, jackets and coats, umbrellas, strollers, wheelchairs, crutches, child safety seats and duty-free merchandise.
