Continental Airlines permits one carry-on bag and one personal item per passenger. The maximum linear measurement for the bag is 45 inches. The maximum length is 14 inches, width is 9 inches and height is 22 inches.
Continental Airlines will measure each bag to make sure it meets the standards of the policy. Baggage is measured by length, width and height. The dimensions of each measurement are added together to determine the total linear inches. The bags' thickest or widest parts of the length, width and height will be measured.
Continental Airlines has policies in place to deal with carry-on bags that do not meet size restrictions. If the bag is found to be too large, the bag will need to be checked. Each checked bag is charged a fee based on destination and whether it is paid online or at the ticket counter (see Resources).
