Why did the east Indians came to Trinidad?

East Indians were brought to Trinidad and Tobago as indentured laborers to work on sugarcane plantations. The British colonial government abolished slavery in 1838, and in the following years, they sought an alternative source of cheap labor for their agricultural industries. India, which was then under British rule, became the primary source of indentured workers for Trinidad and Tobago.
