Are Muslims in Spain called berbers?

The term "Berber" is used to refer to the indigenous people of North Africa, primarily inhabiting Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, and Libya. While there is a Berber community in Spain, they make up a small minority and are not commonly referred to as Muslims.

The majority of Muslims in Spain are either descendants of Arab settlers from the 8th century or Spanish converts to Islam. They do not identify as Berbers and do not typically use that term to describe themselves. The term "Moor" is sometimes used to refer to Muslims in Spain, but it is a broader term encompassing all Muslims who lived in the Iberian Peninsula during the Islamic period, including Berbers, Arabs, and other ethnic groups.
