The most economic option to travel one way to the Bahamas is The MailBoat Company. Though less luxurious than a chartered yacht or cruise ship, the mailboat brings an adult from either Miami or Ft. Lauderdale to Nassau or Freeport for $58 as of September 2010; senior citizens and children travel for less. The fare for one person traveling with a vehicle is $48. Group rates are available for parties of 20 or more.

The other option for one way boat travel from Florida to the Bahamas is to charter a private yacht. While significantly more expensive than either flying or riding the mailboat, chartering a private cruise will offer both luxury and relaxation.
Through the company Boat Miami, you can make arrangements with a variety of private yacht companies. The least expensive option is to charter a "bare boat" without captain or crew. This means you and your party will be responsible for all aspects of the trip, from navigation to food preparation. Yachts are also available with just a captain or fully staffed with both a captain and crew. Prices vary depending on the size of the yacht, number of passengers and type of travel selected.

Regardless of the service used to travel to the Bahamas or whether or not it is a one way trip, a valid Passport, green card or current alien residence card is required for entry. An original birth certificate or expired passport is suitable for citizens of the United States under the age of 15.
It is also important to remember that you may not transport fruit and other agricultural products between the Bahamas and the United States.
