When was Barbados Formed?

The island of Barbados is believed to have been formed through volcanic activity and uplift millions of years ago. It was first inhabited by Amerindians, who called the island "Ichirouganaim". The island was later colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century, and then by the British in the 17th century. Barbados gained its independence from Britain in 1966.
