Is Vancouver Island a floating island?

Vancouver Island is not a floating island; this is a misconception based on the presence of a long, deep depression in the earth's crust called the Cascadia Subduction Zone, which is a part of the larger San Andreas Fault System. However, the Pacific Plate, along which the Cascadia Subduction Zone runs and which underlies Vancouver Island, is not buoyant enough to cause the island to float on the surface of the ocean.
