Alligators in the ocean or on coast?
While alligators are known to live in freshwater habitats such as swamps, rivers, and lakes, they are not typically found in the open ocean or on the coast. Alligators are more commonly found in brackish or saltwater habitats near the coast, such as estuaries and mangrove swamps. However, they are not known to venture far out to sea.
One notable exception is the American crocodile, which is a saltwater crocodile found in coastal areas and mangrove swamps in the Americas. They are known to tolerate higher levels of salinity than alligators and can even be found in open ocean environments, sometimes swimming long distances between islands.
