Why are there so few forests in the eastern mediterranean?

The eastern Mediterranean region has a Mediterranean climate characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. This climate is too dry for the dense growth of trees. There are, however, many species of plants that have adapted to these conditions, such as olive trees, pine trees, and cypress trees.

Some human activities also affect the presence of forests in the eastern Mediterranean, such as:

- Overgrazing: Grazing animals can eat up vegetation that would otherwise grow into trees.

- Agriculture: Clearing land for agriculture can reduce the amount of land available for forest growth.
