The Labrador Sea is a marginal sea of the North Atlantic Ocean located between the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador to the west, the Canadian Arctic Archipelago to the north, and Greenland to the east. It connects to the Atlantic to the south through the Strait of Belle Isle and to the Arctic Ocean to the northwest through Davis Strait.
The Labrador Sea covers an area of approximately 840,000 square kilometres (320,000 square miles) and has a mean depth of 2,200 metres (7,200 feet). The deepest point is 4,316 meters (14,160 ft). The Labrador Sea was formed by rifting between North America and Greenland during the Cretaceous period, and its present-day shape was largely formed during the last ice age.
