Intertidal zones are the areas of the ocean shore that are alternately covered and uncovered by the tides. These zones experience the most change because they are constantly being exposed to different environmental conditions. The water level can change by several feet in a matter of hours, and the temperature can fluctuate by as much as 50 degrees Fahrenheit in a single day. The intertidal zone is also home to a variety of marine life, including fish, crabs, snails, and sea urchins. These animals must adapt to the constantly changing conditions in order to survive.
