Parks in Havana, Cuba

The parks of Havana serve both as areas of relaxation for the Cuban people and as living monuments to local heroes. A stroll through any one of Havana's parks is bound to take you past a plaque, statue or memorial dedicated to the the rise of Cuban civilization and the unique and noteworthy individuals who helped make that rise possible. Cuba has rich history, tremendous natural beauty and lush tropical vegetation, all of which can be appreciated on their own merit, but it is pleasant to visit any one of these locations with only recreation in mind.
  1. Francisco Albear Park

    • Francisco Albear Park commemorates the Cuban engineer, Francisco Albear, who was responsible for designing the Acueducto de Albear, a system to bring freshwater from the Vento springs into the city of Havana. At the center of the park is a white marble statue of Albear which was designed by the famed Cuban sculptor, Jose Villata Saavedra.

    John Lennon Park

    • Parque Lennon, in the Vedado district in Havana, commemorates the British musician John Lennon. The park takes up one city block and is a pleasant green space filled with flowering trees and dotted with park benches. On one of these benches sits a statue of the former Beatle done by the Cuban sculptor José Villa Soberón

    Fraternity Park

    • At the intersection of Paseo de Marti and Avenue de Bolivar sits Fraternity Park. In the past, this space has been used as a military exercise and training ground but now is a peaceful green area that offers much shade. The park is dotted with monuments, including busts of famous military leaders and the rather spectacular Fuente de la India, a marble statue of a crowned woman presiding over four sea beasts.

    Central Park

    • Central Park, or Parque Central (also known as Parque Jose Martí), is an excellent place to absorb the Cuban culture. The park is in the center of an architecturally attractive set of hotels and businesses. It features many exotic plants, royal palm trees and beautifully manicured gardens. It is often a central meeting location for friends and a comfortable place to come and relax.
