Where Does the Zambezi River Flow? (Hint: Not the Atlantic)

The Zambezi River does not empty into the Atlantic Ocean. Instead, it flows eastward across southern Africa through six countries—Zambia, Angola, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique—before draining into the Indian Ocean.

Along its 2,574 km (1,599 mi) course, it forms Victoria Falls, one of the world’s largest waterfalls, and supports vast ecosystems and hydroelectric projects (Kariba and Cahora Bassa dams).
