Do crocodiles live in the Mississippi River?

American crocodiles are the only crocodiles native to the United States. They are mainly found in saltwater areas, such as mangrove swamps and coastal lagoons, but they can be found in freshwater rivers and lakes as well. Although the American crocodile is found in the southeastern United States, it is not found in the Mississippi River. Crocodiles prefer warmer waters, and the Mississippi River gets too cold for them during the winter months.
