Lodging at Kirkwood Ski Resort

Kirkwood Mountain Resort, in the High Sierra Mountains of California, is a a popular destination for skiers and snowboarders during the winter. Travelers who want a place to stay for a weekend or longer have several options for cottage-style lodging both on the grounds of the resort and in the surrounding area.

    • The Kirkwood Resort includes lodging for families of all sizes. Choices range from hotel-style condos for up to two guests to units that can hold 12 guests. Some condos are ski-in, ski-out, and each has a unique layout and design. All except the hotel-style condos include a full kitchen, color TV, VCR and/or DVD player, fireplace and telephone. Nightly rates are more expensive for weekends and holidays and most expensive during the week between Christmas and New Year's.

    Caples Lake Resort

    • Caples Lake Resort is within a mile of the Kirkwood resort and describes itself as "rustic 1940s, but modern." Its lodging options include cabins for up to six people and single bed-and-breakfast rooms for individuals or couples. The single rooms are in a lodge with a lounge and restaurant, while the cabins feature full kitchens and log fireplaces. The resort closes to visitors from November through Christmas (as well as from early April through Memorial Day) to maintain and upgrade its facilities.

    Sorensen's Resort

    • This option may be the best choice for visitors who wish to stay away from hustle and bustle of Kirkwood Mountain and do not mind driving about 25 minutes to the slopes. It offers year-round lodging in what the resort's website describes as "an incomparably scenic alpine setting." Housing options include cottages in a bed-and-breakfast style, fully-equipped log cabins and contemporary mountain vacation homes. Daily housekeeping service is available. The Country Cafe is a full-service restaurant on the property. The neighboring Hope Valley Resort and Campground is another option during the spring and summer, but closes during the ski season. The Hope Valley Cafe and Market is open year-round.
