Was Polynesia the first Pacific Island to be settled?

Polynesia was not the first Pacific Island group to be settled. The earliest evidence of human settlement in the Pacific Islands dates back to around 35,000 years ago, when people from Southeast Asia migrated to New Guinea and Australia. The first Polynesians arrived in the Pacific Islands around 2,500 years ago.
