There is no administrative province called "Moravia" in today's Czech Republic. Instead, Moravia is a historical and cultural region that now comprises four modern regions:
| Modern Region (Kraj) | Capital | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| South Moravian | Brno | Largest Moravian city; historic capital |
| Zlín | Zlín | Industrial heartland; Baťa legacy |
| Olomouc | Olomouc | Ecclesiastical center; university city |
| Moravian-Silesian | Ostrava | Heavy industry; extends into Silesia |
Moravia existed as a margraviate (march) within Bohemia for centuries, then as a crown land of Austria-Hungary until 1918. It retained distinct identity, law, and diet (assembly). The 1949 communist reorganization erased it administratively, but Moravian identity persists—dialect, folklore, wine culture, and a flag (yellow-red bicolor) still fly proudly.
So: no "capital of Moravia" exists today—but Brno functions as its de facto cultural and economic center.
