Cities in Tamil Nadu: Municipal Corporations and Districts

As of 2023, Tamil Nadu has 38 districts and nine municipal corporations (major cities with independent governance):

1. Chennai (capital)
2. Coimbatore
3. Madurai
4. Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)
5. Tirunelveli
6. Salem
7. Tiruppur
8. Erode
9. Vellore

Beyond these, the state contains hundreds of smaller municipalities and town panchayats. Chennai is the largest by population and economic activity.
