Marfa is a small town in Presidio County, Texas, situated in the high desert of West Texas. It lies about 200 miles southeast of El Paso and 190 miles northeast of Chihuahua, Mexico. Once a railroad water stop, Marfa gained fame in the 1970s when artist Donald Judd established large-scale installations there.
Today, Marfa is a cultural destination known for the Chinati Foundation, mysterious Marfa Lights, minimalist art, and stark desert landscapes. Its isolation fosters a unique creative community amid the vast Chihuahuan Desert.
