Why did Brazil move the capital to highlands?

The capital of Brazil was never moved to the highlands. Brasília, the current capital, is located in the Central Plateau, which has an average elevation of about 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) above sea level. Rio de Janeiro, the former capital, is located on the Atlantic coast. Both cities are situated at relatively low elevations.
