The Alamo's Location: Mexican Texas, 1836

The Alamo (Mission San Antonio de Valero) was located in San Antonio de Béxar, in the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas.

The Texas Revolution

• Anglo-American settlers (Texians) + Tejano federalists vs. Centralist Mexican government (Santa Anna).
• Alamo siege: Feb 23 – Mar 6, 1836. All ~180–250 defenders killed.
• "Remember the Alamo!" became rallying cry for Texian victory at San Jacinto (Apr 21, 1836).
• Republic of Texas declared (Mar 2, 1836); recognized by US, France, UK.
• Annexed by US 1845 → Mexican–American War → current borders.

Today

The Alamo is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (part of San Antonio Missions) in downtown San Antonio, Texas, USA. The chapel ("the Alamo") and Long Barrack are original; most walls reconstructed.
