Where is modern day Sychar Samaria?

Sychar was a Samaritan village in the time of Jesus, mentioned in the Gospel of John (4:5-6). In modern times, the site which is generally identified with Sychar is the Palestinian town of Askar, which is located in the northern West Bank, near the city of Nablus. Askar is situated about 7 kilometers southeast of Nablus and has a population of approximately 10,000 people.
