Why 6 Ave is called Avenue of the Americas?

The section of Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, between West 42nd Street and West 57th Street, is known as the Avenue of the Americas. The name was chosen in 1945 to commemorate the close relationships between the United States and the countries of Latin America. The avenue is lined with the flags of the Americas and is home to many important cultural institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Americas Society, and the Rockefeller Center.
