How much of land is inhabited by people?

The total land area on Earth is approximately 148,940,000 square kilometers (sq. km). Out of this, the amount of land inhabited by humans varies depending on the definition of "inhabited." One common definition considers an area inhabited if it has a population density of at least one person per square kilometer. Using this definition, the total inhabited land area is approximately 29,300,000 sq. km, which is around 19.7% of the total land area.

This inhabited area includes densely populated urban centers, as well as rural areas with low population densities. The distribution of human population is uneven, with some regions having very high population densities and others being sparsely populated or uninhabited. Factors such as climate, geography, availability of resources, and socio-economic conditions influence human settlement patterns.
