Where is Abu Simbel located?

The Abu Simbel temples are located in southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan.

They are situated on the western bank of Lake Nasser, approximately 230 kilometers (143 miles) southwest of Aswan.

The temples were originally carved out of a sandstone cliff during the reign of Pharaoh Ramesses II in the 13th century BCE. They were later relocated to their current location in the 1960s, as part of the UNESCO Nubia Campaign to save them from submersion beneath the rising waters of Lake Nasser due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
