What happened in ronda the first month of civil war?

In July 1936, at the very beginning of the Spanish Civil War, Ronda became the scene of bloody violence. The city, which had a significant anarchist and socialist population, was taken over by the CNT-FAI (National Confederation of Labour and the Iberian Anarchist Federation) on 20 July 1936. The CNT-FAI established a revolutionary committee and took control of the city. They executed hundreds of people, mostly landowners, priests and other members of the upper class. The exact number of victims is not known, but estimates range from 500 to 1000. The violence was condemned by the Republican government, which sent troops to restore order. The troops arrived in Ronda on 31 July and put an end to the killings. The CNT-FAI was expelled from the city and the revolutionary committee was dissolved.
