How to Vacation in Costa Rica in September

Costa Rica is noted for its tropical weather, beaches and wildlife. While traveling to Costa Rica can provide both adventure and relaxation, planning your trip to the region will ensure that you see and do all that you desire while there. September, however, produces significant rainfall and you should plan your days accordingly.

Instructions

    • 1

Pack rain gear, including rain boots, hats and jackets. Though you may have a few hours of dry weather, storms can roll in frequently, so be prepared.

    • 2

Create a list of activities you can do indoors and outdoors. September is the rainiest month in Costa Rica, so having different activities that you can do while it is raining will ensure your travel is productive. Schedule outdoor activities, such as hikes or wildlife watching during the mornings, when it is likely to be sunny before the rainy afternoons and evenings.

    • 3

Spend time on the Caribbean side in the southern Atlantic beach areas of Cahuita, Puerto Viejo and Manzanillo. Here, the region experiences its drier season and you can spend time on the beach, as well as take in the local restaurants and outdoor activities.
