Why was Montgomery chosen as alamabas state capital?

The city of Montgomery was not chosen as the capital of Alabama. The city of St. Stephens served as the first capital from 1817 to 1819, followed by Cahaba until 1826. Tuscaloosa served as the third capital city until 1846, when Montgomery became the permanent capital of Alabama.
