In addition, San Jose is Costa Rica's capital and largest city, offering food and nightlife to those who want to really appreciate Tico culture.

Whether you are backpacking through the country or enjoying a romantic getaway with your partner, Costa Rica's wide variety of lodging will have something that will fit any type of trip. Costa Rica has the typical hostels, bed and breakfasts and hotels, but offers more unusual experiences as well. Try camping on the beach in Playa Conchal or staying in an eco-lodge in the middle of a rain forest.
For cheap and authentic meals, be sure to visit the sodas, which can be best described as a combination of a convenience store and family-owned restaurant. This is where the Ticos grab quick meals, and you will always get a large portion at a small price. These, like most meals in Costa Rica, will likely feature rice, beans and a choice meat dish.
Costa Rica is known for being one of the most adventurous vacation destinations in the world. From waterfall rappelling to canyoning to canopy zip lines through the jungle, you are guaranteed no shortage of entertainment on this trip. If these activities are too risky for your taste, Costa Rica offers plenty of fun for the more faint of heart. Try your hand at surfing at Playa Jaco or hiking through one of Costa Rica's diverse rain forests. Take a coffee tour at one of Costa Rica's famous coffee plantations, or simply spend a day exploring San Jose. With all of these options, one thing is for sure: Costa Rica will never be boring.
