Tamarindo Beach is a culturally diverse surfing village located on Costa Rica's northwest Pacific Coast. Because of its many restaurants, quaint shops, world-renowned surfing conditions and laid-back culture, Tamarindo is a popular destination for tourists.
  1. What Tamarindo Offers

    • Tamarindo Beach has enough activities and culture to satisfy any adventurous tourist. Take surfing lessons, go sport fishing, spend the afternoon shopping at the dozens of funky boutiques, or go on one of Costa Rica's famous canopy tours. Other activities include horseback riding, golfing and all-terrain vehicle tours.

    Getting to Tamarindo Beach

    • Tamardino Beach is a one-hour car ride from the Costa Rican city of Liberia, which has an international airport. It is a 4.5-hour drive from the capital, San Jose. Tamarindo also has an airstrip that services flights arriving from San Jose.

    • There are numerous accommodation options in Tamarindo Beach. Some of these options include luxury and economy hotels, bed and breakfasts, apartment and condo rentals and waterfront villas.

    • Tamarindo is a world-famous surfing spot and attracts thousands of experienced surfers each year. The excellent wave conditions are believed to be a result of Tamarindo's location between the famous break of Playa Negra and Witches Rock.

    • In addition to sporting and cultural opportunities, Tamardino has a renowned spa, CoCo Beauty Spa, that offers treatments such as massage, facials and pedicures. Visitors can also learn to speak Spanish at the Instituto de Espanol Wayra, reaching a basic level of competence in one week while staying on-site and participating in a variety of activities outside of daily classes.

    • Tamarindo Beach is famous for its vibrant sunsets, which boast vibrant pinks and yellows over a panoramic Pacific Ocean view. Day tourists should keep this in mind when making taxi arrangements back to their accommodations outside of town.
