Where is Byzantium today?

The city of Byzantium no longer exists. It was renamed Constantinople in the 4th century AD and served as the capital of the Byzantine Empire for over a thousand years. The city was conquered by the Ottoman Turks in 1453 and was renamed Istanbul. Today, Istanbul is a major city in Turkey and is considered the cultural, economic, and administrative centre of the country.
